   Celebrate PROBUS Month with Us!
  
  October 1st is officially National Seniors Day, but PROBUS is celebrating all month long! Throughout October, we’re recognizing the incredible contributions of PROBUS Clubs across the country.
  

  We invite you to join us on Tuesday, October 14 at 8:45 AM for a special event hosted by the Town of the Blue Mountains.

  The morning will feature:

  • An official Proclamation of October as PROBUS Month.
  • The raising of our new Beaver Valley PROBUS flag at the Riverwalk Flagpole (located on the west side of the Town Offices, near the wooden fish sculptures).

  We will be hosted by the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Council of the Town of the Blue Mountains.  We will also be joined by Martin Buscher the President of PROBUS Canada.

  This is a proud moment for the Beaver Valley PROBUS Club, and we’d love for you to be part of it. Come celebrate our role in the community and show your support for Probus in the Town of the Blue Mountains!

  Speaker:   Sarah Rody-Spencer and Andrew Hill
  Title: Living Better with Parkinson's

  Sarah Rody-Spencer has dedicated the last 10 years of her health-care career to hospice palliative care, end-of-life care and to those living with life-limiting illnesses. Sarah is excited to share her experiences with the Living Better with Parkinson’s team and the community as a whole.

  
  

  Andrew Hill is recently retired from a 40-year career in project management. He was a senior team member of Intrawest Resort Development and board director, board chairman and president of the Georgian Triangle Development Institute. Andrew was diagnosed to have Parkinson’s in 2020. While his symptoms are relatively mild, the disease continues to progress, inspiring Andrew to be involved with treatment research and best practices for living well with Parkinson’s.

  
  

  Book Exchange: The Book Exchange will be set up at the back of the room starting at 1 PM. Books should have a copyright date no older than 10 years. Bring a Book, Take a Book. We ask that you exchange no more than 3 books at a time. Please contact Nancy Hart with any questions!

  Speaker: Jarvis Strong, Escarpment Corridor Alliance
  Title: Ecological Corridors: A Critical New Tool For Conservation—Globally and Locally

  Jarvis Strong, Executive Director, Escarpment Corridor Alliance:
  Jarvis joined the ECA as the inaugural ED in March 2023. He has nearly 10 years of experience as a nonprofit Executive Director and has lived in the South Georgian Bay area since 2012. Before coming to the area Jarvis spent over 10 years managing summer camps and outdoor education organizations for children and youth. Previous to the ECA, Jarvis has led other charities including Camp Quality Canada, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Collingwood YMCA. Jarvis has an HBA from the University of Waterloo in Recreation & Parks.
